I definitely found it to be a respectable conclusion to the Sinnoh region which started off strongly and, as evidenced by this review, it ended pretty well, but the middle parts were lacking. The adventure episodes are uninteresting, but the battle stuff is a lot of fun and really well executed. So overall this season is pretty solid and a lot of fun. Ash is fine here as is Team Rocket, but Dawn continues to be forgettable and she did not get a proper sendoff in my opinion. I liked some of the Pokémon here as well, but most were forgettable. Paul surely started off as a rip-off of Gary, but he became better and better afterwards with quite solid characterization. Yes, this must have been the longest ever battle for the show thus far and they truly delivered with a greatly executed battle after battle.Īnd I really like how the two became better friends or at least came to understand and respect one another. The ending is nice, but naturally the best episodes are the three episodes where the battle between Paul and Ash takes place. The standout episodes are the final couple of episodes with the tournament. Most delivered in pure action spectacle and were well executed and quite fun to watch. Yes, the highlight of this season are the various duels and fights. They’re there, but what is also there is a number of good fighting episodes. At 34 episodes, this season is brisker, more entertaining and much more interesting than usual for the show and it mostly flies by despite a number of the usual fillers that we get.īut those fillers do not take too much of the season’s runtime thankfully.
